Path to Home with KADREA

Working in the world of real estate, a REALTORS® passion lies in finding their client’s the perfect home where they are safe, comfortable and can thrive. However, the dream of a stable place to live feels out of reach for many vulnerable members of our community – those living in poverty, are on the verge of losing housing, or are living in absolute homelessness.

In partnership with United Way, the Kamloops and District Real Estate Association is engaging local REALTORS® in a month long campaign called Path to Home.  The campaign kicked off on February 5th with a Seeing is Believing tour which hosted 50 local REALTORS® aboard a generously donated Thompson Valley Charters bus. This tour served as a learning opportunity, exploring the scope of low-income, subsidized and transitional housing available for the most vulnerable members of the Kamloops community.

On February 14, REALTORS® will have the opportunity to spend Valentine’s Day sharing the love by volunteering in a “Day of Caring”, which will see a group from the REALTOR® community come together to roll up their sleeves and paint the interior common spaces of the Emerald House shelter. Emerald House is Kamloops’ only emergency shelter that provides accommodation for men, women and children who are homeless, with a focus on connecting individuals and families to supports in the community to help maintain stable housing

Finally, on February 28th all REALTORS® will be invited to come together one last time to assemble apartment kits and enjoy an appreciation event complete with one last push for fundraising dollars.

Throughout the month of February, REALTORS® will be challenged by their peers to make financial contributions to the month long campaign with opportunity for name recognition on apartment kits or housing accommodation, depending on the donation amount. These donations will be used to purchase all of the components of the apartment kits and contribute to the overall housing needs of those who will benefit most.

United Way inspires people from all walks of life to come together to raise funds, volunteer and stimulate policy and attitude changes that lead to lasting change in our entire region. We work to make our communities the best they can be by focusing resources in poverty, children and youth and strong communities. Donate today!
