TD’s Day of Caring with Mount Paul Food Centre

TD’s Day of Caring with Mount Paul Food Centre

The Team from TD at Mount Paul Community Food Center

A few weeks ago, over 20 TD managers based out of the BC Northern interior and Yukon district volunteered for Days of Caring® at the Mount Paul Food Centre. These community-oriented individuals traded in the office for a garden and  pens for shovels while putting in a hard days work at the centre.

Mount Paul Food Centre is a core for local food security programming, that focuses on food access, food skills, and food education. This centre is available to any community member wanting to come together with others to grow, cook, share, and advocate for healthy food. The program works to increase skills and education for cooking, growing and sourcing local food, increase food literacy, promote the engagement of community members, and foster local partnerships.

The enthusiastic volunteers from TD spent their day working in the garden and harvesting tomatoes for a Day of Caring®. They dug up the front garden beds and pulled weeds, giving the beds a new and improved look. On top of that, the large group peeled garlic and blanched tomatoes in the kitchen. A big thank-you to all of these amazing volunteers who traveled near and far to make a difference in our community.

With nearly 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring® proudly presented by Home Hardware Kamloops.

The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
