Through the work of British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) staff, Mt Paul United Church received a facelift – both inside and out.
Mt. Paul United Church is used by many different groups all throughout the week. Our Day of Caring® was planned for this location by Interior Community Services. Even though they work in many different places across Kamloops, they decided this is where they could use the most work. The kitchen is always in use and the cabinets had not been touched up in over fifty years. We were lucky to be at a location with so many tasks for BCLC’s first Day of Caring®!
At 8:30 am people started to arrive and staff from BCLC got everyone together and split into teams for their tasks. Throughout the day we were able to repaint all kitchen cabinets, paint the washroom, weed and clean up the entire exterior of the building and pick fresh veggies from the community garden behind the church.
By the end of the day, the cabinets looked brand new. While some people painted, others washed all the hinges and handles. When the doors were hung back up, they looked brand new! With over 20 volunteers we got a ton of work done.
BCLC was only able to be there for a half day, but the amount of work that was completed would have taken user groups of the Church months to complete. Thank you so much for all your hard work BCLC!
This year, our Days of Caring® are sponsored by KGHM Ajax Mine. Because of their generous donation, we are able to help more organizations in our community, get more people involved, and create a larger impact within our community.
