We're hiring! Resource Development Assistant

The ideal candidate will be professional, confident, outgoing and have a desire to learn more about their community. Prior event planning and project management knowledge and experience an asset.  They must have public speaking experience and exemplary communication skills. They must have their own transportation and will be reimbursed mileage (the car will be used to transport supplies to and from events). They must be able to lift 20 lbs.  A criminal record check will be required after a successful interview.

The successful candidate will intend to return to university full-time in the fall of 2015. The position is for 35 hours per week, and will be for the duration of the summer (18 weeks)

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  1. Promote and represent United Way in the community by communicating the work they do to support the community in their three focus areas.
  2. Co-ordinate Day of Caring® projects.  Match community organizations with businesses on a project, coordinate an orientation meeting, prepare supplies for day-of, attend day of event, and follow up with participants.  This data to be entered in our CRM software, Andar.
  3. Coordinate a “Community Carnival” information sharing and celebration for local non-profits in July.  Work with community agencies, and other event participants and the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association to plan and execute the event.
  4. Participate in and support other community events during the summer as needed e.g. Brain Injury Awareness Days.
  5. Promote the United Way free online resource directory Access Kamloops through presentations and community information events.
  6. Work with the Communications Manager to update Facebook, Twitter and the United Way blog with United Way events and projects.
  7. Provide networking opportunities for other summer student employees to facilitate collaboration, learning and mutual support.
  8. Facilitate ‘Seeing is Believing’ tours for United Way donors who want to learn more about non-profit organizations and community issues.
  9. Manage a budget for all events and volunteer activities.
  10. Perform general office duties as required by the Office Administration.

 

Mentoring & Supervision:

  1. Work with the Community Campaign Manager during your orientation period and be supervised and mentored thereafter in the form of weekly 1 hour sessions.
  2. Develop clear, comprehensive and achievable work plan with clear objectives and timelines. The Resource Development Associate will guide the student through the process and lead by example. Working independently is required.
  3. Attend and participate in regular, weekly staff meetings at United Way where they will be coached by the larger staff.
  4. Plan and prepare for weekly reporting/updating meetings for the Resource Development team.
  5. Bi-monthly feedback sessions will be held to have a two-way conversation about the work environment, deliverables, communications and overall impressions of the position.
