Introducing Our New Summer Staff!

Hello Kamloops!

My name is Ryan, and I am one of the two new Community Impact Associates at the United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo. I will be coordinating events aBlog Photond helping to raise public awareness of what it is, exactly, that United Way does for Kamloops. I am only a week into this position and I already feel I am learning a lot about this community that I was not aware of before!

I have been living in Kamloops attending TRU since Fall 2011 and am enrolled in the school’s new and upcoming Communication and Public Relations program. I lived in Ashcroft, BC before I moved here, so I am quite familiar with the Thompson Nicola Cariboo region.

I entered my role here at United Way through TRU’s cooperative education program, and before this all happened I was working part-time as an assistant for TRU’s Student Engagement team (staging their Winter Orientation event and whatnot).

On an entirely unrelated note, I enjoy playing music and partaking in outdoorsy activities. My summer goal is to take-up rock climbing!

I am also really excited to start staging some engaging community events and, more importantly, start giving back to this community which has been amazing to me since I moved here!

Blog PhotoHello everyone! My name is Courtney, and I’m one of the new summer students at the United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo. My role as a Community Impact Associate will be focusing on volunteer engagement, and my big project for the summer will be the Days of Caring! I’m extremely excited to get down and dirty with these events, as well as engaging TRU students in the fall with the United Way Youth Club.I grew up in Kamloops and graduated from NorKam Secondary. I’ve just recently been accepted into the Bachelor of Social Work program at TRU for fall 2013, and I’m looking forward to all the new knowledge I’ll bring with me from United Way. Whenever I have a little free time at home, I’m usually searching for new music for to listen to for the day. I also enjoy playing acoustic guitar as well as fiddling around with other instruments – I love to get my hands on new sounds! I also love cooking and baking; if you have a sweet-tooth, I’d be glad to bring you some goodies!

Throughout my high school career, I wasn’t very engaged in the community; it wasn’t until university that I wanted to become a part of something bigger than myself. I heard about United Way at the TRU barbeque in September 2012, where Amy introduced me to the Youth Club. The diversity and flexibility United Way demonstrates has helped me to get a taste of a number of non-profits around Kamloops. United Way has enabled me to open my eyes to the myriad of services and events Kamloops has to offer, and it makes me very proud to be a part of this team and community!
