Last weekend our United Way was very proud to host United Way’s from across British Columbia, Alberta and into the Yukon and Northwest Territories at the BC Regional Conference here in Kamloops.
The weekend started with a host city reception on Friday night, sponsored by Teck, and MLA Terry Lake addressed the crowd at 7 pm. Most of Saturday was spent in an informative and interactive presentation with Jim Yu, from United Way Worldwide, on Relationship Management and followed up by a wonderful dinner and recognition gala where we honoured Rod Killough for his long time support of United Way. Rod served on the board of directors for many years and helped grow the Highland Valley Copper campaign exponentially during his time there.
Sunday started off with a delicious breakfast prepared by the Steelworkers, USW 7619 – it included peach and salmon omelettes – and was followed up with a live address and skype Q&A with United Way Canada’s new CEO Jacline Abray-Nyman. We then had presentations on each of United Way’s focus areas before ending the weekend with a wine raffle.
The weather was beautiful and the learning opportunities abounded. Every one of our staff members left buzzing with idea’s. If you couldn’t make it out west for the conference check out the twitter hashtag #uwbcconf for a running commentary and images from the weekend!
Thank you to United Way Canada for sponsoring this wonderful event, and thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and learn with us!
