Emergency Transportation Program

In partnership with the City of Kamloops, United Way distributes bus tickets to community agencies and organizations to assist their clients in accessing emergency social services. In the summer months we distribute 500 tickets per month and in the winter months it increases to 800 tickets.

The Emergency Transportation Assistance Program has been very successful by enabling individuals accessing services like food banks, doctor's appointments, support groups, housing appointments, job training and other essential community services.

Read what The House of Ruth has to say about the program:

"Many of the residents here at the House of Ruth are extremely grateful for access to these bus tickets for various reasons. Many would not be able to get to professional appointments or other groups within the community if they did not have this available. It contributes to a sense of independence when they are able to access public transportation to an event, group, or appointment. Having the bus tickets provides stability and variety within their recovery as they are able to then access out-patient programming within the community as well as other meetings and support groups. We currently operate a job training program for the residents and the bus tickets aid in participation in this element of the program. Thank you for all your support in this aspect. It is greatly appreciated by staff and residents."
