With just four days left until Christmas, most families are scrambling to run last minute errands and prepare their homes for the holidays. Even during this busy time, the Levis family dedicated an entire day to painting in order to give new life to the gym walls at the Boys and Girls Club.
It all started with Katie, the Levis family daughter, who wanted to give back. The entire family stepped up to support this initiative, and they got in touch with United Way to find out how they can get involved. Before we knew it, we had seven wonderful volunteers from two families ready to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. This was a wonderful Christmas surprise for the kids using the gym to play, learn, and grow.
A project like this can save our non-profit partners crucial dollars and countless hours of staff labor. It can mean the difference between funding dollars for a program, or keeping the building functional. The Boys and Girls Club offers more than 20 different programs – all made possible by our community, for our community.
This special Day of Caring® tells a tale of families supporting families. Thank you to the Levis family for sharing the spirit of Christmas and being everyday heroes.

With nearly 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring®
The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
