A special thank you to our Domtar heroes for giving up a Saturday to roll up their sleeves and give back.

On October 28th, 2017 Domtar partnered with United Way to help prepare JUMP gardens for the long winter ahead of us after a very successful year. Our partners at Domtar provided an impressive 15 volunteers on a Saturday morning to help take down the garden just in time for our first snowfall. With 30 extra helping hands, Domtar was able to save JUMP gardens an incredible month of staff labour. Domtar volunteers took it upon themselves to bring tools and supplies from their own homes once they realized the size of the project we were up against. Determined, Domtar volunteers finished cleaning up the massive garden in just under 3 hours.

Glenn Hilke of JUMP gardens invited the gang over to the Royal Social Club to witness first-hand, and taste, the goodness that comes out of this wonderful non-profit organization. The Royal Social Club provides several hot and fresh meals throughout the week to those in need using produce grown in that very garden. Thank you JUMP for being an asset to our community, and thank you to partners like Domtar that embody the giving nature of Kamloops and make initiatives like this feasible.

With nearly 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring®

The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
